What’s the history of OCam?
OCam is the product of our partnership with OStream, Inc (ostream.com). OStream makes great software and hardware reference designs for processing media streams with Edge AI. OCam will be the first of many different solutions Arducam and OStream will work on together.
What’s different about OCam?
OCam is the first camera to automatically add context to video and audio streams using Edge AI. It identifies real world objects and adds that metadata into the Object MP4 format. This means the resulting data can directly trigger actions on the device as well as make video and audio searchable just like Google Images. OCam has a lot of horsepower, and all the software to deploy a data solution around it, all at a great price.
What is the Object MP4 Format?
Object MP4 is a specification-compliant extension that adds a metadata object track that is time indexed to the video and audio tracks. OStream invented the format and OCam is the first device to do this directly on the sensor. Imagine OCam counting and detecting car license plates and stamping that information inside the MP4 stream itself. OStream has other offerings that enable Object MP4 processing for existing legacy cameras.
Where does the OCam data go? How do I access it?
OCam runs OStream’s Physico-ObjectAgent, a software component that is one part camera agent, one part AI execution engine and one part encoder and transporter of Object MP4 data. It all integrates to and through Physico-ObjectServer. Physico-ObjectServer is a downloadable, full stack media server. It acts as the user interface for the OCams and indexes all the Object MP4 into a search engine. Physico-ObjectServer can work with or replace video management systems. The easiest way to run it is via Docker.
What is Physico, ObjectAgent and ObjectServer?
Physico is the product line name of OStream’s software that is made to process media with Edge AI. Physico ObjectAgent is what runs on OCam. Physico ObjectServer is the backend search engine server and UI to drive those cameras.
What AI Technologies does OCam use/support?
OCam is an open, platform-type device that leverages OpenCV, GStreamer, Tensorflow, Pytorch, Edge Impulse, and any Python code. The ObjectAgent can download and execute AI Pipelines which are visually designed workflows that run on 1 to many OCams as needed. Basically, it runs all the major layers and can easily assimilate existing code as well as help you choose some out-of-the-box solutions.
Is Arducam making AI models now?
No, we think of OCam as not making AI but making AI run great, at scale and at a great price. You can think of OCam as a wonderful integration of AI engines and surrounding agent technologies to leverage the best that AI can offer. Arducam does not make any AI models but OStream has offered several “packs” of free models (90+ in them) that are tested and publicly available that work for many cases. ObjectServer also seamlessly integrates the entire world of EdgeImpulse models. Lastly, it will run virtually any Tensorflow, tflite, Pytorch or OpenCV models.
Does OCam require any other paid subscription services to work?
We have decided to release a free Maker version of Physico for Arducam customers. This means everything you see on this page including the camera, all the software, the search engine, user interface, base AI models and data tools are all free for those that buy OCam. Physico does have enterprise features and multi-cam capabilities that is a chargeable license but that would only apply to integrators that really want to sink their teeth into selling and deploying OCam at scale.
How is the camera powered?
OCam has Gigabit PoE as well as wall-powered USB C.
How is the camera networked?
OCam has gigabit ethernet as well as 2.5Ghz WiFi. Future versions will offer onboard cellular as well as Ripl Networks’ long distance point to point IP radios.
Can I configure the camera to work without the Internet?
No feature of any kind requires an Internet/Cloud connection. The IP/LAN-based connection is between the OCam and the Physico-ObjectServer which also lives on the LAN. Physico-ObjectServer can be downloaded to run in the cloud if you please.
Does it come with a mount?
Yes, it comes with a standard spherical mount with one side that can screw into walls etc. a ball in the middle and a bolt that screws into the OCam enclosure.
Is it waterproof?
The case is rated for rain but not submersion under water. There is a “gland” that can route either the ethernet, the usb power cable or both in order to support this.
Is the camera module and the lens inside OCam changeable?
The module and lens are not currently changeable.
Can I add local storage to the camera?
The OCam has local storage of 4GB for caching data should the ObjectServer be offline. The space is not extendable by standard users right now.
Does it support night vision?
This version of OCam does not support night vision.
When can I expect my pre-orders to ship?
2.5 months after pre-orders close.
How is OCam affected by current supply chain problems?
OCam has a strong supply chain based on the components we chose. The availability for OCam is and will remain strong so customers/partners can depend on it as a solution.
