Hello, I’m trying to get support from Arducam, but got no response so far… so I’m trying here to see if someone experienced the same…

We have purchased 2 pieces of UB0229 and both of them show the following behavior. The webcam seems to work only the first time you plug in. I connect the camera, open cheese on my Ubuntu 16.04 (but also tried other software with the same results), it works, then I close it. If I open again the camera won’t work, seems like a timeout issue, no frame are received by the camera anymore… I have to physically disconnect and reconnect, then It works again. I tried with different computers, all of them running Ubuntu 16.04 kernel 4.15.0-140-generic (latest). Even when it does not work, there are no errors in dmesg and the camera is correctly listed in lsusb. Computers I tried the cameras are different vendors (Intel NUC 8i3BEH with latest BIOS) and HP Pavillion 15-ac194nl, so it seems really related to camera/OS.

Dmesg show this for the camera:

While I have another UB0229, which is some months older and works, showing this in dmesg:

[18575.796472] usb 1-2: new high-speed USB device number 6 using xhci_hcd

Output is pretty much the same, except for the product name. I suspect some newer firmware in the new cameras broke functionality, at least on Ubuntu 16.04… any help?

Thanks
7.What attempts at troubleshooting have you already made?
I tried to unbind/bind the USB using echo “‘1-4.1’ |sudo tee /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb/unbind” and then the same for binding.

Hi,

We noticed that you have consulted the same question in the mailbox, and we will reply to you in the mailbox.

Hello !
I am experiencing the same kind of issue with UB0229 module in Windows. I have to unplug replug the camera. Also high resolution give the same issue.
After many tries I cannot even detect the camera anymore, I’ll try to reboot my PC…

Hello Jules,

They provide me a firmware upgrade by mail, try to reach them via email. I didn’t try this upgrade yet, since I haven’t Windows and the upgrade they sent me is only for Windows, so it should work for you. I’m waiting for a Linux way to install it…

Hello Jules,

Your phenomenon seems to be a firmware problem, please contact our support email [email protected].

Thank you for your answers, I’ll wait for an answer in my mailbox then
