Change of lens holder

Hi,

Is it possible to replace the M12 lens mount holder by a CS ome?

Yes. As long as the hole spacing of the lens mount match. Here is an tutorial:

Thank you.
It seems in that tutorial that the camera used is a OV5647, 20mm screw holes distance.
There the lens comes with a CS mount holder but does all CS lenses come with it?
If not, where can they be purchased?
I’ve seen some CS holders with and without IR filter, also some with a 2 wires cable with a connector I don’t know its purpose. M12 mounts are widely offered but CS don’t. Why is that?

Usually when you purchase a CS lens, there would be no CS mount holder, but some of our distributors sells this, such as here.

Whether the CS holders come with IR filter depends on how you want the lens-holder combination to work. If you need to filter the IR but your lens does not come with an IR filter, then you will be needing it on the holder.

The 2 wires cable with a connector connects to a switch to control the mechanical IR filter. A mechanical IR filter, also known as a switchable IR filter, filters the IR on demand.

M12 mount holders are widely offered because there is no standard for a M12 mount holder as different m12 lens accept a different range of lens holder heights, while the CS Mount is a fixed standard. That means people usually don’t need a an extra CS mount holder unless they come from another mount.

Thanks Lee for your help.

I don’t get why it is so difficult to buy CS holders.
UCtronics, (the link you suggested) I made a purchase in March of 2 lenses and after 10 weeks they refund because they never arrived to Miami Florida, US. I know the corona…
I’ve found the same in newegg.com

Okay, hope your problems are solved for now. Feel free to post if you need further help.

@dstonek

Have you solved your problems?

Thank for your concern.
I was posing a hypothesis to evaluate the purchases I need. I have not yet had to make replacement holders.
Aside from the Raspberry Pi cameras, they all have M12 mounts. Instead of unscrewing one lens and screwing a similar one into the same frame, which is a lot of work to find the right focus, I prefer to change the assembly by operating only two screws.
I don’t have any CS lens yet but I bought (don’t have it yet) your Nikon-CS adapter to try with the IMX477 camera I bought but also don’t have yet.
The original consultation comes from that side: having the Nikon-CS adapter how can I use it with the OV5647 cameras, which mount I can install instead of the M12, not a second adapter.
Thank you

I also see there are at least 2 diferent heights of the square part of the holder: 4mm and 6mm. @LeeJackson says "M12 mount holders are widely offered because there is no standard for a M12 mount holder as different m12 lens accept a different range of lens holder heights, while the CS Mount is a fixed standard."

I’m confused here.

@dstonek

I’m not sure what do you mean by the 4mm and 6mm for the square part of the holder.

We are also confused what you really want:

  1. Which lens and lens holder you have got?

  2. Which type of the camera board you have right now, OV5647 or IMX477?

  3. What’s your problem right now?

Thanks.

Hi Lee,
I found these two offer about 4 and 6mm:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/121473838619
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sunvision-Metal-CS-Mount-4-0mm-Lens-Holder-Kit-for-CCTV-Board-Camera-CS4/121473797618

  1. I have lot of M12 lenses, a kit of M12 mount holders and a CS adapter for nikon lenses
  2. I have now the IMX477 , IMX219 and OV5647
  3. Having the Nikon-CS adapter, how can I use it with the OV5647 cameras, which mount I can install instead of the M12, not a second adapter.

Thank youNikon lens with IMX477

I cannot post an answer. It is not saved.

I used the link button to include 2 ebay links with 4mm and 6mm CS mount holder

Hi, Please send email to [email protected]

It’s the automatic moderation of the forum that prevents your answer from showing, and I have just fixed that.

I understand that you are evaluating your purchase and you’ve got M12 lenses and DSLR lenses for Nikon, and you want to keep it as simple as possible so only operating two screws would be handy.

What do you think of M12-CS mount adapters? You can thread an M12 lens in the adapter and you won’t need to replace the CS-Mount holder. Since the latest Raspberry Pi camera - High Quality camera - natively comes with a CS-mount, people now tend to use M12 lenses in the ways of m12-cs adapters.

Mmmmm, I don’t remember if I have at least one 1/2.3" M12 lens I could use with the HQ camera without vignetting.
My question was about using (testing) the CS-Nikon adapter with a OV5647 camera.
Both Ebay links were about replacing the M12 mount by a CS one.
Thank you

Well, then I guess you can just go with the CS lens holder on eBay.

Their specs say 20mm hole spacing so both should work with our OV5647 camera board (ours are compatible with 18mm and 20mm). After you thread the CS-Nikon adapter into the CS-mount holder, you would be able to change the assembly as a whole.

Notice that the CS-mount holders on eBay actually comes with 4 bolts, and that possibly means 2 are used for fastening the holder to the camera board, and the other 2 are used to fix the position of the lens from the outside of the thread, so don’t forget to fix the lens in position so the focus won’t be ruined while you changing the whole assembly.
